BREAKING: 13 feared dead as suspected herdsmen attack Otukpo community

Suspected armed herdsmen have attacked Efeyi community in Ugboju District of Otukpo Local Government Area, leaving at least 13 people dead and several others missing.

Idoma Voice gathered that the attackers invaded the community on Tuesday, shooting sporadically at residents and forcing many to flee into surrounding bushes for safety.

Local sources said at least 13 bodies had been recovered as of the time of filing this report, while search efforts were still ongoing for several residents whose whereabouts remain unknown.

The gruesome attack sparked outrage across the community, with angry youths reportedly conveying the corpses of the victims to the palace of the district head in protest over the recurring killings in the area.

The protesters, who demanded immediate action from the government and security agencies, lamented what they described as the continued failure to protect lives and property despite repeated attacks on communities in Benue South.

Residents expressed fears that the casualty figure could rise as more people remain unaccounted for.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, DSP Edet Udeme, said she was yet to receive a comprehensive briefing on the incident but promised to provide details after obtaining information from officers on the ground.
