2027: ACF calls for responsible voting, warns against political violence
The Arewa Consultative Forum ACF has urged Nigerians to vote responsibly in the 2027 general elections and warned political actors and citizens against violence before, during and after the polls.
ACF Chairman, Mamman Osuman, made the call in his message marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
Osuman urged eligible Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards PVCs and participate actively in the electoral process. He also advised voters to assess candidates based on their records, policies and positions on issues affecting the country.
He cautioned citizens against allowing political parties to dictate their voting decisions, saying voters should make their choices based on personal judgment and conscience.
The ACF chairman also expressed concern over possible election-related violence, particularly among young people. He urged political actors and citizens to avoid inflammatory rhetoric, provocation and other actions capable of triggering unrest.
Osuman said political differences should not lead to hatred, violence or the destruction of lives and property.
He also called on Nigerians to hold political leaders accountable for their performance, particularly in addressing insecurity, poverty, economic hardship and other challenges confronting the country.
According to him, some of the difficulties facing Nigerians have been worsened by individuals entrusted with public leadership. He stressed that political office should serve the interests of the people and the common good.
Osuman said Nigeria’s future depends on a collective commitment to peace, unity, justice, good governance and responsible citizenship.
He urged Nigerians to approach the 2027 elections peacefully and ensure that political competition does not threaten the lives, property or unity of the country.
