Nigeria has won the right to host the 2028 International Table Tennis Federation ITTF Africa Championships after defeating Tunisia in a vote at the ITTF Africa Annual General Meeting in Tangier, Morocco.

Nigeria secured 23 votes out of 38 certified votes, while Tunisia received 15, giving the country the mandate to stage the continent’s premier table tennis competition in Lagos.

The President of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation NTTF, Adesoji Tayo, expressed appreciation to the delegates for their support and pledged to deliver a successful tournament.

“We thank all the delegates for trusting Nigeria to host a befitting tournament in 2028, as well as the African Para Championships in 2027. As experienced organisers of major table tennis tournaments, we are committed to delivering a seamless event that will attract more visitors to Nigeria,” Tayo said.

He added that Lagos would welcome participants and fans from across the continent for the 2028 competition.

Nigeria will also host the African Para Championships in 2027. Libya will stage the Africa Cup that year, while Algeria will host the Africa Championships and Botswana the Youth event.

For 2028, Rwanda has been selected to host the Youth event, while Egypt will stage the Para Championships. The host country for the Africa Cup has yet to be announced.
