Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has charged the Church to intensify evangelism and prayers to be able to win more souls for Christ.

Governor Ortom gave the charge yesterday while commissioning the Prelate Lodge and Guest House as well as Bishop Houses, Methodist Church of Nigeria, Makurdi Diocese.

He stated that the situation in Nigeria has reached a stage where the Church must intensify evangelism, prayers and as well speak out against the ills bedeviling the country as boldness and courage have become necessary at this stage.

The Governor stated that God has kept Benue and Nigeria going because of His mercies over the land, stressing that he survived attempted assassination on his life because God spared him.

While expressing the hope that Nigeria would remain a united nation in the face of agitations, the Governor acknowledged the support of the Church to his administration through prayers and pledged sustained collaboration.

The Governor welcomed the Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Dr Samuel Chukwuemeka, Archbishops, Bishops and other leaders of the Church to Benue and assured them of sustained support and collaboration.

The Prelate, Dr Chukwuemeka acknowledged Governor Ortom’s stand as a voice for the downtrodden in the country, saying he defends every religion as a true man of God.

He stated that most of the Governors in Nigeria have started seeing what Governor Ortom saw several years ago, expressing the hope that more would come to terms with what is happening in Nigeria and work towards a better and united country.

The Prelate described Governor Ortom as a lover of the Church and has compassion for his people, adding that he is proud to be associated with the Governor.
