Owukpa, a district in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, on Sunday, adopted the Secretary-General of the Federation, George Akume, as a son.

This ceremonial adoption, marked by a naming ceremony, was carried out as a mark of honor and confirmation, with Akume being bestowed with the name ‘Inalegwu’ in the Idoma language, which translates to “I have been vindicated.”

The adoption ceremony was a focal point of the commemorative activities organized to mark the 10th anniversary of the passing of late ASI Peter Agada, the father of Austine Agada, who serves as the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State.

The community highlighted Akume’s exceptional support for the Owukpa community as the driving force behind their decision to adopt him.

Acknowledging Akume’s tenure as the Governor of Benue State, the community emphasised his empowerment initiatives that significantly benefited many sons and daughters of Owukpa, including notable figures like former Commissioner of Finance, Chris Obute.

In his response to this heartfelt gesture, George Akume expressed gratitude to the people of Owukpa for the honor bestowed upon him.

He pledged to reciprocate the gesture in a substantial manner, reiterating his commitment to continued support for the community.
