A community leader, Daniel Pulle, and a woman, Deborah Benjamin Kak, have been killed in separate attacks by suspected armed assailants in Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incidents were disclosed by the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth-Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, who said the attacks occurred on Sunday evening.

In a statement issued on Monday, Tengwong said Pulle, a community leader in Gana-Ropp, Ropp District of Barkin Ladi LGA, was ambushed at about 7:55 p.m. while returning home on his motorcycle.

According to the statement, the attackers opened fire on him near a bridge leading to the community, killing him on the spot.

Tengwong also said Deborah Benjamin Kak died after sustaining gunshot wounds during an attack on her residence in Lwa village, Bachi District of Riyom LGA.

She was rushed to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), where she later died while receiving treatment.

The association expressed concern over the recurring attacks and loss of lives in Plateau communities, calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to protect residents and prevent further violence.

Meanwhile, conflict journalist Kim Masara Usman also confirmed the incidents in a Facebook post on Monday.

According to him, Daniel Pulle was returning home to his family when gunmen attacked him.

“While many of us slept last night, a community leader, Daniel Pulle, was shot and killed just minutes from his home in Gana Ropp village of Barkin Ladi LGA, Plateau State.

“He wasn’t fighting or arguing — just a peaceful man returning to his family on a motorcycle when gunmen opened fire. He died on the spot,” he wrote.

Usman added that Deborah Benjamin Kak, who was shot during an attack on her residence on June 26, later died from her injuries at JUTH on Sunday.
