Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has confirmed that she was recently interrogated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the spraying of Naira and U.S. Dollars during her daughter’s lavish wedding ceremony.

In a statement posted via her Instagram page on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, Ojo revealed that she received an invitation from the anti-graft agency while in the United Kingdom and honoured it immediately upon her return to Nigeria.

The EFCC reportedly presented her with video evidence showing guests, including celebrities and friends, spraying money during the wedding event. Officials then informed her that such acts, regardless of whether the currency is Naira or foreign are prohibited under Nigerian financial regulations.

“I was surprised to learn that spraying any currency on people is illegal,” Ojo said. “I had thought only the abuse or mutilation of the Naira was an offence.”

She added that the EFCC’s questioning covered details of her background, work history, and business activities. After the session, she was allowed to leave the same day, with her lawyer, O.I. Salami, present and on standby for possible further inquiry.

Reflecting on the experience, Ojo urged Nigerians to abandon the cultural practice of spraying money at parties to avoid legal troubles.

“Perhaps it’s time to reconsider this long-standing tradition. Let’s prioritise caution and avoid any potential problems,” she wrote.
