Nigeria Professional Football League side Rivers United has appointed Evans Ogenyi as their new chief coach, taking over from Fatai Osho, who stepped down at the end of the previous season.

Ogenyi brings a wealth of coaching experience to the club, having previously worked with Warri Wolves and most recently Kano Pillars, whom he guided from the Nigeria National League (NNL) to the NPFL.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Ogenyi stated, “After speaking with Coach Stanley Eguma, it was a really easy decision to join the coaching set-up here. It’s an exciting time to become part of this great team, and I’m looking forward to working closely with everyone on and off the pitch at Rivers United.”

In addition to the coaching appointment, Rivers United also announced the acquisition of new players, including Deputy Echeta, John Uche, Ebedebiri Endurance, and Yao Kouassi Bernard.

Last season, the Pride of Rivers displayed their prowess in the NPFL, finishing first in Group B of the regular season with an impressive 34 points from 18 games. Despite their strong performance, they secured third place in the playoffs with nine points from five matches.
