FIFA imposes transfer ban on Heartland FC over unpaid wages

The Federation of International Football Association, FIFA, has imposed a transfer ban on Nigeria National League, NNL, side, Heartland FC of Owerri, over the club’s failure to settle outstanding payments owed to a former player, N’Goran Roland Adjourmani Koffi.

The global football governing body confirmed that the Naze Millionaires are barred from registering new players for the next three transfer windows.

FIFA’s decision followed a complaint filed by Koffi, who represented Heartland during the 2023–24 Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, season. The letter conveying the decision stated that the sanction will remain in effect until the club fully pays the player his outstanding entitlements.

This latest development adds to Heartland’s long-standing financial troubles. The Nigeria Football Federation’s Players’ Status and Arbitration Committee, PSAC, had earlier directed the club to pay arrears owed to several former players, including Umah Johnson, Esobe Chukwudi, Ezekiel Bassey, and Ugochukwu Leonard.
