Police arrest 63 suspects, recover drugs, weapons in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested 63 suspects and recovered a quantity of illicit drugs and dangerous weapons during a coordinated raid on criminal hideouts in Damaturu metropolis.

The Command, in a statement issued on Monday by its Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said the operation was conducted on July 12, 2026, by the Area Commander of the Damaturu Area Command.

According to the statement, personnel from the ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ Divisions were deployed to raid identified criminal hotspots within the state capital as part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to curb illicit drug trafficking and substance abuse.

The operation was carried out across several locations, including Mass Transit, Family Support, Zango CMC, Finance, Nayinawa Primary School, Jerusalem Ajayi, Moduri, and Sunday Market.

The Police said 63 suspects, including eight women, were apprehended during the exercise.

Items recovered from the suspects include Tramadol tablets, Valium-5 tablets, nine Pentazocine injections, a liquid substance popularly known as “Sholi”, another substance referred to as “Suck and Die”, suspected Indian hemp, as well as axes and other dangerous items.

The Command said the suspects are currently undergoing investigation, adding that those found culpable will be charged to court for prosecution in line with the law.

The Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling illicit drug trafficking, substance abuse, and other criminal activities across the state.

He urged officers to sustain the crackdown on criminal elements and called on residents to support security efforts by reporting suspicious activities.

“See something, say something. Report suspicions,” the CP advised.
