Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has called on the people of the state to fast and pray against what he described as evil forces causing bloodshed and destruction in the land.

He spoke at NKST Church, Iortyer, in Makurdi during the wedding of Mimi Terhemba and Tavershima Amase.

Governor Ortom who called on the people to participate in the one week prayer and fasting program organized by the Christian Association of Nigeria in conjunction with the state government starting next Monday observed that only the devil could instigate human beings to kill and destroy.

He stressed that God had answered the prayers of the people several times in the past and urged that sincere prayers coupled with repentance and fasting be sustained particularly against the rising wave of crime stressing that such problems emanated from the spiritual realm.

Governor Ortom expressed appreciation to the church for the support for his re-election and pledged to provide quality leadership that would uplift the fortunes of the state.

He praised the families of the couple for giving their children sound family background that enabled them to live responsible lives even as he commended the couple for bringing honor to their parents.

The Governor maintained that the fact that the entire government of Benue State as well as dignitaries from beyond attended the event was testimony that people had come to honor them.

In his sermon, Reverend Basil Orkpe enjoined the couple to surrender their lives and marriage to the control of the Holy Spirit who he said was the best guide and counselor.
