NBA trade rumors: Milwaukee Bucks considering bold move for former top 5 pick

Giannis Antetokounmpo has raised concerns within the Milwaukee Bucks organization by expressing his readiness to explore other options if the team fails to align with his championship aspirations. While not overtly issuing a threat, the seven-time All-Star has made it evident that he won’t be extending his contract this summer and will contemplate his future in greater depth next year.

The Bucks are now undoubtedly assessing strategies to fortify their roster. Based on Antetokounmpo’s comments, it appears that re-signing NBA free agents Khris Middleton, Brook Lopez, and Jae Crowder might not meet his expectations.

In light of this, Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report has suggested that the Bucks should consider taking a calculated risk by pursuing Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs. Alongside seasoned players Alec Burks and TJ McConnell, Suggs has been identified as a potential trade target for Milwaukee.

Buckley wrote, “The Bucks have to keep searching for rotation upgrades, whether that’s adding wing depth with Burks, upping their playmaking with McConnell, or taking a flier on Suggs, the No. 5 pick of the 2021 draft who might need a fresh start following a pair of disappointing seasons with the Orlando Magic.”

Among the three options, Suggs emerges as the most intriguing, in my humble opinion. Despite not fulfilling the substantial expectations placed upon him, including those of the Magic’s front office when they drafted him fifth overall in 2021, Suggs has slipped down the pecking order in Orlando due to the abundance of young talent on the team.

The specifics of what the Bucks would need to relinquish for Jalen Suggs remain uncertain. However, given his current trajectory, Milwaukee could potentially acquire him at a reasonable cost. Admittedly, the 6-foot-4 combo guard could face challenges in fitting with the Bucks, but his considerable upside makes him a captivating and potentially transformative addition for Milwaukee’s title aspirations in the years ahead.
