The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that Jose Peseiro will continue his role as Nigeria’s coach, despite his agreement to a reduced salary. The NFF made this announcement on Sunday, stating that the 63-year-old coach will lead Nigeria in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, following the expiration of his initial one-year contract in July.

Peseiro’s original contract paid him $70,000 per month, but due to financial constraints faced by the federation, the new agreement will see his monthly compensation reduced to $50,000.

He has been tasked with leading the Super Eagles to at least the semi-finals of the upcoming Africa Cup, set to be hosted by Ivory Coast in January. The three-time African champions have accumulated 12 points from five qualifying matches and have already secured a spot in the tournament.

Nevertheless, they must secure at least one point in their upcoming match against Sao Tome and Principe to clinch the top spot in their group, ahead of second-placed Guinea Bissau, who currently have 10 points and will face Sierra Leone at home.
