Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen has been honored with the Paolo Rossi award, recognizing his achievement as the leading goal scorer in Serie A during the previous season.

The accolade takes its name from the acclaimed Italian footballer, Paolo Rossi, who notably secured the distinction of being the top scorer in the 1982 FIFA World Cup, which Italy emerged victorious in.

Osimhen’s remarkable contribution saw him netting an impressive 26 goals across 32 league matches, pivotal in propelling Napoli to clinch the Scudetto after an absence of more than thirty years.

A noteworthy milestone was reached as the 24-year-old became the inaugural African player to claim this achievement.

Furthermore, the striker currently holds the title of the highest-scoring African athlete in the Italian top-flight league, surpassing the previous record held by the esteemed Samuel Eto’o from Cameroon.

Continuing his impressive performance, the Nigerian international has already secured three goals within two league appearances for Napoli in the ongoing season.
