Taiwo Oyedele: Profile of Nigeria’s new Finance Minister
Taiwo Oyedele (born June 18, 1975) is a Nigerian economist, accountant, and public policy expert with a strong background in fiscal reforms and tax administration.
He currently serves as the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, a role he was appointed to by President Bola Tinubu.
Oyedele was initially appointed as Minister of State for Finance in March 2026 after his nomination by President Tinubu and confirmation by the Senate. He was sworn into office on March 16, 2026.
In a fresh development, President Tinubu approved a cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday, relieving Wale Edun of his position as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele has now been elevated to take over the role as Nigeria’s substantive Minister of Finance.
His appointment places him at the helm of Nigeria’s economic management team, overseeing fiscal policy and coordinating the country’s economic strategy.
