Troops attached to Sector 1 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have arrested a herder accused of destroying farmland in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State.

The development was disclosed by a counter-insurgency and security analyst focused on the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, in a post shared on X.

According to Makama, the troops, who are based in Anule, acted on a report of farmland destruction around 12:00 p.m. on May 3.

He explained that when the soldiers arrived at the scene, they allegedly discovered a herder grazing cattle on cultivated land, leading to extensive damage to crops.

“The suspect was subsequently arrested and handed over to the Nigeria Police for further investigation and necessary action.

“Efforts are ongoing to prevent further incidents and ensure peaceful coexistence between farming and herding communities in the area,” the security expert said.
