Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has described Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against Benin Republic as the most crucial fixture of his managerial career.

The decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier (Matchday 10) will take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, with kick-off scheduled for 5:00 p.m. (Nigeria time).

Nigeria currently occupy third place in Group C with 14 points, trailing group leaders Benin Republic by three points.

To finish top and secure automatic qualification, the Super Eagles must win by at least two goals and hope South Africa drop points against Rwanda.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference on Monday, Chelle admitted feeling the weight of the occasion but expressed confidence and enthusiasm ahead of the high-stakes encounter.

“For me, as a coach, this is probably the most important match of my career. I’m happy, excited, and yes, a bit nervous, but I enjoy the pressure, Chelle said.

We must stay focused on our strategy, our players, and our performance. After the game, we’ll see where we stand.”

The Malian tactician also emphasized the need for mental resilience and composure among his players.

“If I start thinking about scoring two or three goals, something could go wrong. We just need to focus on winning and play with a positive mindset,” he noted.
