BREAKING: FG lifts suspension on Arik Air operations
The federal government has lifted the suspension of the operations of Arik Air, a local airline. This comes over a week after the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, had ordered the grounding of the airline’s operations until further notice.
IDOMA VOICE reports the grounding of Arik Air was initiated by an order from the enforcement department of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, related to an outstanding debt of $2.5 million owed by the airline.
Roy Ilegbodu, the Chief Executive Officer of Arik Air (in Receivership), expressed disappointment with the Minister’s decision to ground the airline. He stated that the suspension would severely affect passengers, the company, and the Nigerian economy. Ilegbodu also noted that Keyamo’s directive violated court processes and urged the Minister to reconsider the decision.
However, on Thursday, Keyamo issued a directive lifting the suspension on Arik Air’s operations.
