Senator Neda Imasuen, representing Edo South, has announced his decision to leave the Labour Party (LP) and join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on June 12. He cited internal disarray within the Labour Party as a key reason for his defection.
Speaking in Benin, Imasuen said his move is a strategic effort to better align Edo South with federal development priorities under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The senator highlighted his achievements during his tenure, including sponsoring the Federal College of Education, Abudu (Establishment) Bill and resolving over 20 public petitions. He also pointed to vocational training programs, agricultural support initiatives, rural training for traditional birth attendants, and scholarships awarded to students in his district.
Imasuen stated, “I will be leaving the Labour Party for the APC as the current disarray in the LP will not help me achieve my aim for my people. My movement will also help align Edo South with the federal government and bring development to our people.”
He pledged to continue focusing on health, youth empowerment, and rural development in Edo South. The senator also emphasized his support for President Tinubu’s policies.
Imasuen detailed his efforts to promote agriculture, which he described as vital to national survival. He disclosed that several agricultural programs have been implemented to train farmers in modern techniques and provide tools to boost productivity, especially in rubber, cocoa, and cashew farming.
“There are testimonies from farmers whose yields have improved significantly,” he said.
