The Labour Party (LP) has announced a rescheduling of its primary elections earlier fixed for 27th and 29th May 2026.

According to the party, the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly primaries initially slated for 27 May, as well as the Presidential and National Assembly primaries scheduled for 29 May, will now hold simultaneously on Saturday, 30 May 2026.

In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the party said the adjustment became necessary due to the clash of the earlier dates with two significant national events.

He explained that 27 May coincides with the 2026 Eid el-Kabir (Eid al-Adha) celebration, while 29 May marks the third anniversary of the inauguration of elected public office holders in Nigeria.

“As a people-oriented and responsive political party, we deemed it appropriate to adjust our schedule to enable members, aspirants, supporters, and Nigerians generally to fully observe these important occasions,” the statement read.

The party also apologised for any inconvenience caused by the change and appreciated the understanding and cooperation of stakeholders.
