Senate begins screening of new service chiefs nominated by Tinubu
Newly appointed service chiefs appeared before the Senate on Wednesday for screening at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.
The officers arrived around 10 a.m. in the company of several senior military officials.
The screening, initially slated for an earlier date, was rescheduled to October 29 following a directive from the Senate leadership.
The development followed a letter from President Bola Tinubu, read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary, seeking expedited confirmation of the nominees.
Tinubu specifically requested the confirmation of General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff, among other service chiefs, to ensure prompt assumption of duties.
Akpabio explained that the adjustment was necessary to enable the new military heads to immediately take charge and strengthen coordination within the country’s security architecture.
