Benue South: Abba Moro secures third ticket to battle Ottah, others in 2027
The Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, PhD, on Wednesday secured the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections, pledging to continue delivering quality representation and development to the people of Zone C.
Senator Moro emerged as the party’s consensus candidate during the PDP senatorial congress held at Leach Hotel in Otukpo, attended by delegates drawn from the nine local government areas of Benue South.
Addressing delegates during the congress, the Benue State Chairman of the PDP, Rt. Hon. Ezekiel Adaji, disclosed that the party had earlier endorsed Senator Moro as its consensus candidate, noting that the congress was convened to formally affirm his candidature.
According to Adaji, Senator Moro deserved re-election owing to what he described as his outstanding performance and contributions to the development of Benue South Senatorial District.
He urged party faithful to continue promoting the achievements of the Senate Minority Leader across communities in Zone C.
The motion for Senator Moro’s affirmation was moved by former Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chris Adaji, and seconded by another former Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Edor Ogbole.
Chairman of the PDP Benue South Senatorial Congress Committee, Chief (Dr.) Ekpe Ogbu, congratulated Senator Moro on his emergence, describing him as a committed party man who had contributed immensely to the growth and stability of the PDP.
Dr. Ogbu also commended delegates for conducting themselves peacefully and urged members to remain steadfast and united ahead of the 2027 elections.
In his acceptance speech, Senator Moro expressed gratitude to the party leadership, delegates, and supporters for the confidence reposed in him.
The Senate Minority Leader reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP, describing himself as a founding member of the party who remains dedicated to strengthening its structure and ensuring victory at the polls.
While reeling out his achievements before the cheering delegates, Senator Moro assured the people of Benue South that he would intensify efforts toward attracting more democratic dividends if re-elected in 2027.
“This is what I have done. This is what I am doing. This is what I will continue to do if re-elected in 2027,” he stated.
The senator highlighted several achievements recorded during his tenure, including sponsorship of establishment bills, motions, and facilitation of projects such as bridges, roads, hospitals, school buildings, water projects, rural electrification, as well as youth and women empowerment programmes across the district.
Senator Moro dismissed criticisms from opponents who claim he has done little for Zone C, insisting that communities benefiting from his projects can testify to his impact and commitment to grassroots development.
He thanked the PDP for finding him worthy of the senatorial ticket and pledged to lead from the front to ensure the party records victory at all levels in the forthcoming elections.
The congress was witnessed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security personnel, party stakeholders, and other dignitaries from across Benue South.
