Nine more bodies recovered from Zamfara landmine explosion site
The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed that officers recovered nine additional bodies from the scene of a landmine explosion along the Anka–Bagega Road in Anka Local Government Area.
Police sources explained that a Divisional Police Officer (DPO), alongside tactical teams, led the recovery operation after deploying to the area for an on-the-spot assessment.
The explosion happened between Tungar Kudaku and Bagega communities. The incident triggered a swift response from security operatives, who moved into the area shortly after receiving reports.
During the ongoing search and recovery exercise, security teams discovered nine more bodies at the scene. Officers expanded the search after initial findings indicated that more victims might still be within the area.
A source involved in the operation stated, “Security personnel arrived at the scene, conducted a detailed assessment, and recovered nine additional bodies from the explosion site.”
Authorities later evacuated the recovered bodies to a hospital. Medical personnel carried out autopsies and other required procedures. Afterward, officials released the remains to families for burial according to Islamic rites.
Security agencies reinforced their presence along the Anka–Bagega corridor immediately after the incident. They deployed more personnel to prevent further attacks and restore public confidence in the area.
Officials also increased visibility patrols along the route. The patrols aim to deter criminal activity and improve safety for road users and nearby communities.
The police command urged residents to stay alert. They encouraged members of the public to report any suspicious movement, objects, or activities to security agencies without delay.
Authorities restated their commitment to protecting lives and property across Zamfara State. They assured residents that security operations would continue until peace is restored in affected areas.
Investigations into the cause and circumstances of the explosion are still ongoing as security teams continue to gather intelligence.
