TSU arrests two students for allegedly smoking cannabis on campus

Two 300-level students of Taraba State University (TSU), Jalingo, have been apprehended for allegedly smoking cannabis within the university premises.

The students, who are from the Department of Public Administration, Faculty of Management Sciences, were arrested by officers of the university’s Directorate of Narcotics and Anti-Cultism during a routine operation.

They were reportedly found with substances suspected to be cannabis and were allegedly smoking on campus when they were intercepted.

The Director of the Directorate of Narcotics and Anti-Cultism said the arrest reflected the university’s commitment to its zero-tolerance stance on drug abuse, cultism and other activities that could disrupt the academic environment.

He added that the directorate would continue to intensify surveillance and enforcement efforts to keep the campus safe and conducive for learning, teaching and research.

Findings by our reporter showed that the case has been referred to the appropriate university authorities for further investigation and possible disciplinary action in line with the institution’s regulations.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Sunday Paul Bako, also reaffirmed TSU’s commitment to tackling drug abuse, cult-related activities and other social vices on campus.

Bako said the university would continue to strengthen preventive measures and enforcement strategies to promote discipline, protect students’ welfare and maintain a secure academic environment.
