Troops recover 800 cattle suspectedly rustled by terrorists in Plateau
Troops of Sector 2, Operation Enduring Peace OPEP, have recovered about 800 cattle suspected to have been rustled by terrorists in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The recovery took place around 6:20am on September 27, 2026, in Kingkis village, following intelligence that terrorists were moving a large number of suspected rustled cattle through the area.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the troops launched a pursuit operation after receiving the information. They later encountered the terrorists, who abandoned the cattle and escaped into a nearby forest.
The recovered cattle were taken to a secure location pending identification and verification of their rightful owners.
The operation followed another successful intervention by Sector 2, OPEP, at Sabon Layi in Wase LGA on September 26.
During the earlier operation, troops foiled an alleged cattle-rustling attempt and recovered 57 cattle. The animals were taken to a military base while authorities began efforts to identify and return them to their owners.
