Idoma Hall Of Fame will preserve history, inspire future leaders – AVM Morgan
Former Chief of Defence Intelligence, Air Vice Marshal Monday Morgan, has said the Idoma Hall of Fame will preserve the history of accomplished Idoma sons and daughters while inspiring younger generations to pursue excellence and contribute to society.
Morgan stated this while speaking on the significance of the initiative, describing it as an opportunity to document the achievements of distinguished Idoma people and provide role models for young people.
He said the Hall of Fame would enable younger generations to learn about the backgrounds, career journeys and accomplishments of recognised individuals, giving them hope that they, too, could attain great heights regardless of their backgrounds.
According to him, the initiative is particularly important at a time when many young Nigerians lack role models to guide their aspirations.
He explained that the stories of accomplished individuals could motivate young people to believe in their potential and work towards achieving their ambitions.
Using his military career as an example, Morgan recounted how he joined the military academy at the age of 17, became an Air Force pilot at 21 and later qualified as a fighter instructor.
He also highlighted his participation in military operations in Liberia and Sierra Leone, as well as his involvement in a United Nations peacekeeping operation in Angola.
Morgan subsequently served in various command positions before being appointed Chief of Defence Intelligence.
He said his journey from a humble background to the highest levels of military leadership demonstrated that a person’s background should not limit their aspirations.
“The child of nobody could become a greater person in society,” he said, stressing that the Hall of Fame would encourage young people across Idoma communities to dream big and pursue their goals.
The retired military officer also emphasised the importance of family upbringing in shaping responsible individuals, noting that parents play a critical role in instilling moral values and guiding children towards positive role models.
Beyond preserving individual achievements, Morgan called on the Idoma people to draw strength from their history, unite around common interests and pursue greater political inclusion in Benue State.
He argued that political participation and access to resources were important for the development and empowerment of the Idoma nation.
Morgan expressed appreciation for the recognition, describing it as an honour that would remain memorable to him and his family.
He said the initiative represented a meaningful way for the Idoma people to recognise the contributions of their distinguished sons and daughters and pass their legacies on to future generations.
