Benue APC crisis: Dan Onjeh warns against attempts to hijack power from Gov Alia

Daniel Onjeh, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the party’s 2023 senatorial candidate for Benue South, has strongly criticized what he described as coordinated efforts by political opponents to hijack power and destabilize the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia.
Onjeh alleged that some political figures in the state are actively working to derail the current government’s progress, accusing them of exploiting ongoing challenges in Benue for personal political gain.
Speaking during an interview on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television program, Onjeh warned that such actions threaten the fragile peace and development initiatives being implemented by the Alia-led government.
“These political opponents are not interested in the well-being of the people of Benue,” he said. “They are driven by ambition and are willing to incite chaos just to satisfy their personal interests.”
He continued: “It is evident they are attempting to manipulate the current crisis to serve their agenda, but this will not be allowed to stand. The people of Benue deserve better—we must not allow selfish interests to derail the progress we have begun under Governor Alia.”
Onjeh called for unity and an end to inflammatory rhetoric, urging all stakeholders to place the state’s welfare above partisan politics.
“The time for politicking is over. What Benue needs now is peace and stability,” he said. “We must rally behind Governor Alia, support his efforts to restore security, and focus on development. The people of Benue have suffered enough.”
He urged political actors across the divide to embrace cooperation and prioritize the collective good, emphasizing that the future of the state depends on collaborative leadership and a shared commitment to rebuilding.
