JAMB: 2025 UTME results out today

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that the results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will be released on Friday, May 9.
This means candidates who sat for the examination can begin checking their scores from Friday morning.
The board disclosed the development in an official statement made available to The PUNCH in Abuja.
“The release of the 2025 UTME results is scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, May 9, 2025. Venue: JAMB National Headquarters, Bwari, Abuja. Time: 8:00 a.m.,” the statement read.
Poor Performance Raises Concerns
Ahead of the official release, JAMB shared preliminary performance statistics for the 1.9 million candidates who sat for the examination. The data revealed that over 1.5 million candidates scored below 200 out of a total of 400 marks—sparking fresh concerns over the quality of secondary education in the country.
The UTME tests candidates in four subjects, with the Use of English being compulsory. The remaining three subjects are selected based on each candidate’s chosen course of study.
Anti-Malpractice Measures Taking Effect — Minister
Commenting on the high rate of low scores, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said the trend reflects the effectiveness of the government’s crackdown on examination malpractice.
“The high failure rate in the 2025 UTME is clear evidence that the government’s anti-malpractice efforts are beginning to yield tangible results, particularly within JAMB’s system,” Alausa said.
