Lauretta Onochie breaks silence on being stranded, kicked out of UK home

Lauretta Onochie, former Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) board, has denied reports suggesting that she was forcibly evicted from an apartment in the United Kingdom.

Earlier reports had alleged that Onochie was left stranded and embarrassed after being removed from the residence by family members.

Responding to these claims on Sunday, Onochie refuted the rumors and provided her side of the story. She explained that it was her cousin, Victor Ashiedu Fejokwu, and his wife, Ruth Emereze, who were staying in her apartment. Onochie had initially extended her hospitality to house them when they were facing housing challenges.

In a series of tweets, Onochie stated, “WHAT A BATTLE, I RECOVERED MY HOME. My Cousin, Victor Ashiedu Fejokwu and his wife, Ruth Emereze were stranded, in fact, homeless at the time. I took pity on them, took them in, to house them in my home.”

Onochie went on to describe the events that unfolded over the past year. She claimed that her attempts to regain access to her property were met with resistance, with her cousin and his wife allegedly changing locks and refusing her entry.

“They stopped contributing to the rent when they both have jobs, preferring to host lavish parties,” Onochie alleged.

On the day in question, Onochie asserted that she finally gained access to the house when her cousin’s wife inadvertently left a garden door unlocked, allowing her to enter. Confrontations escalated, leading to Onochie contacting the police.

“They became nasty, and when I called the police, they were dealt a heavy blow and told to vacate the house,” Onochie recounted.

According to Onochie, her cousin and his wife moved out of the residence two days ago. She concluded her statement by suggesting that they would face the consequences of their actions.
