2023: 72-year-old former PDP chairman, Barnabas Gemade joins Benue governorship race

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, Barnabas Gemade, a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has indicated interest in the Benue State governorship race.

Gemade, Nom-I-Yange-I-Tiv, who represented Benue North East constituency at the national assembly between 2011 and 2019, is gunning for the number one seat under the mantra, “Big Project 2023. To revamp Benue.”

A campaign poster of Gemade sighted by IDOMA VOICE had a bold inscription that read: Best for Benue.

The former lawmaker is running on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

Gemade’s ambition is coming at a time that the people of Benue South Senatorial District are agitating for power shift.

A group under the auspices of Benue Rebirth Movement led by AVM Monday Morgan, has been championing the Benue shift project.

Gemade, born 4 September 1948, was a member of the 1994–1995 Constitutional Conference during the military regime of General Sani Abacha.

He has held the positions of Secretary (Minister) of Works and National Chairman of the Congress of National Consensus party, which was one of the parties sponsored by military director, General Sani Abacha.
