BREAKING: FearlessInOctober protests begin in Abuja

Published

on

A nationwide protest, tagged #FearlessInOctober, officially commenced today in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

IDOMA VOICE reports that this protest follows the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations held between August 1 and 10, driven by the economic hardships many Nigerians are facing.

By 7 a.m., protesters had already gathered at the busy Utako market in the Utako district of the FCT, where the protest is currently underway.

Damilare Adenola, Director of Mobilisation for the Take It Back Movement, voiced concern about the economic difficulties in the country, attributing them to Federal Government policies.

Meanwhile, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command has reassured residents of Abuja that the October 1 Independence Day celebration will proceed without disruption.

The FCT Police, in a statement issued on Monday by its Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the strategic deployment of personnel and equipment across Abuja to ensure a secure and smooth 64th Independence Day celebration.

The deployment will include Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) teams, anti-riot gear, and enhanced visibility policing. Traffic diversions will be implemented in areas expected to draw large crowds, such as Central Area and Eagle Square.

The Police have also called on residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to FCT emergency lines.
