Lampard suffers first defeat as West Brom beat Coventry 2-0

West Bromwich Albion ended their near three-month wait for a home victory with a 2-0 triumph over Coventry City, handing new Sky Blues manager Frank Lampard his first defeat in charge.

After drawing 10 of their previous 11 matches, this marked only the second win for the Baggies since their victory over Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth Argyle on September 21. In a twist of irony, the win came at the expense of Lampard, Rooney’s former England teammate.

Albion took the lead in the 11th minute, benefiting from a deflected effort by Alex Mowatt. Despite the even nature of this Midlands derby, the match was sealed in the 74th minute when Karlan Grant delivered a superb second goal, ensuring the points stayed with the hosts.

The victory lifted West Brom back into the Championship play-off zone in sixth place, now 10 points adrift of the top spot. Meanwhile, Coventry City remain in 16th, 11 points behind Albion and just four clear of the relegation zone.
