Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has confirmed that arrests have been made in connection with the recent killings in Benue State.
Speaking on Thursday during an interview on Arise Television, Musa stated that the Nigeria Police Force had apprehended several suspects linked to the violence, which recently claimed the lives of over 200 residents in Guma Local Government Area.
The killings, allegedly carried out by suspected herdsmen, have triggered widespread outrage across the country.
Musa, however, assured the public that security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS) and other stakeholders, are working in concert to address the crisis.
“The police have arrested a number of people, and actions are being taken,” he said. “Investigations are ongoing with the DSS, the police, and all relevant stakeholders.”
He stressed that while updates on security operations may not always be made public immediately, significant efforts are underway behind the scenes.
“Because we are law-abiding individuals, we have to be sure of what we’re doing. The fact that it wasn’t announced doesn’t mean nothing is happening. All the security forces are working together to ensure that this stops,” he added.
