Super Eagles rise to 41st in FIFA world ranking, 5th in Africa
Nigeria has recorded an impressive rise in the latest FIFA world rankings, climbing to 41st globally and 5th in Africa, in what marks a renewed upward trajectory for the Super Eagles on both the continental and global football stage.
The new ranking, released by FIFA on Thursday, reflects Nigeria’s improved performances during the recent international window, where the team secured consecutive victories that boosted their total to 1,495.46 points, up from 1,483.86 points, a gain of 11.6 points.
In Africa, Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria continue to occupy the top four spots ahead of Nigeria.
Morocco, the 2022 World Cup semi-finalists, remain the continent’s top-ranked team and sit 12th globally with 1,710.11 points. They are followed by Senegal (18th, 1,650.61 points), Egypt (32nd, 1,525.31 points), and Algeria (35th, 1,510.26 points).
Nigeria’s progress from 45th to 41st in the world underscores the team’s growing consistency and reaffirms its position among Africa’s elite footballing nations, despite earlier setbacks in major competitions.
The African top ten now includes Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire (42nd globally), Tunisia (43rd), Mali (47th), South Africa (58th), and Cameroon (62nd), further illustrating the increasing competitiveness of African football. Côte d’Ivoire, the reigning AFCON champions, gained 7.88 points to climb to 42nd, while Tunisia improved by 7.78 points to move up to 43rd.
On the global stage, Spain reclaimed the No. 1 position with 1,880.76 points, displacing Argentina (2nd, 1,872.43 points) and France (3rd, 1,862.71 points). England and Portugal complete the world’s top five, followed by the Netherlands, Brazil, and Belgium in subsequent places.
