A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has lamented that his children are unable to secure employment in Nigeria because of his name.
Speaking during a radio interview on Nigeria Info FM 99.3, George decried the growing hunger and frustration in the country, which he said has left many young people without hope or opportunities.
He said the level of hardship in Nigeria has led to widespread anger among citizens, regardless of political affiliation.
“Today in Nigeria, everywhere there is hunger and anger. Forget about me being in the PDP, the base of the pyramid is what really matters,” George said.
He expressed concern over the rising unemployment rate, saying both graduates and non-graduates are struggling to survive.
“Graduates are floating, no future, no hope; non-graduates are doing nothing. I suggested that Mr President should set up a special fund to empower those who didn’t train in any skill and provide micro-credit for young graduates who want to start small businesses,” he said.
The PDP leader also criticised the recent call for donations to build a national library, arguing that such funds should be redirected to empower jobless youths.
“That fund should have come from those who donated billions to the banks. The President should ask them to give that money for public benefit and manage it properly,” he said.
George disclosed that his own children, despite being qualified graduates, have faced discrimination in the job market because of his name.
“The younger generation in this country, including my own children who graduated a long time ago, have returned and tried to get a job, but they can’t get a job because their name is Bode George,” he said.
