Benue guber 2027: I will defeat Gov Alia if given ADC ticket – Andrew Aba
Governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress in Benue State, Engineer Andrew Aba, has expressed strong confidence in his chances of unseating incumbent governor Hyacinth Alia in the 2027 governorship election, declaring that victory is certain if he secures his party’s ticket.
Speaking during an appearance on The Conversation, a political interview programme on Edoma Television, Aba said widespread dissatisfaction with governance and growing demand for alternative leadership across the state would work in his favour at the polls.
The aspirant maintained that his consultations across the three senatorial districts of the state have positioned him as a leading contender within the ADC, expressing optimism that he would emerge as the party’s flag bearer ahead of the election.
According to him, once given the mandate, he would present a strong grassroots-driven campaign capable of defeating the incumbent administration.
“Yes, there are concerns among Nigerians that the ADC is becoming too dominant politically, but people should not be carried away by what they are seeing. Power ultimately belongs to God, and no one has a permanent monopoly over it,” he said.
Aba argued that political power remains dependent on the will of the people, insisting that voters in Benue were ready for a leadership change driven by competence and inclusiveness.
He added that acceptance of his ambition cuts across ethnic and zonal divides, noting that his governorship bid is not limited to his Idoma roots in Benue South Senatorial District but aimed at serving the entire state.
The governorship hopeful further dismissed fears that internal party competition could weaken his chances, stating that the ADC leadership had assured aspirants of a level playing field during the primary process.
“I am fully confident that once I secure my party’s ticket, history will record that the incumbent governor of Benue State was defeated,” he said.
Aba also pledged to pursue policies focused on tackling insecurity, revitalising agriculture, industrialisation, youth empowerment and inclusive governance if elected governor in 2027.
