Ekiti: Fayose made wrong political choice by endorsing Oyebanji – Oluyede
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Dr. Wole Oluyede, has criticized former Governor Ayodele Fayose for endorsing Governor Biodun Oyebanji ahead of the state’s governorship election, describing the decision as a poor political judgment.
Speaking during an interactive session with journalists in Ado-Ekiti, Oluyede said the governor’s performance, particularly in the areas of security and infrastructure, does not justify the endorsement he received from Fayose.
While acknowledging Fayose’s right to support any candidate of his choice, the PDP flagbearer maintained that endorsements should be based on tangible achievements and effective governance.
“I respect Fayose and his right to support whoever he chooses, but I believe he made the wrong decision by backing this administration,” Oluyede said.
He expressed disappointment over the endorsement, arguing that it reflects a low benchmark for assessing government performance despite what he described as persistent challenges in security and public service delivery across the state.
Oluyede, however, ruled out any political confrontation with the former governor, insisting that Fayose is entitled to his opinion.
According to him, the outcome of the forthcoming governorship election will be determined by Ekiti voters rather than endorsements from influential political figures.
“The people of Ekiti will make the final decision. Elections are won by the electorate, not by political endorsements,” he stated.
The PDP candidate also raised concerns about insecurity in the state, alleging that residents increasingly live in fear due to rising criminal activities. He criticized the government’s response to security challenges and called for greater transparency in the management of security funds.
On national politics, Oluyede reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu, saying his backing for the President predates current political alignments and is based on his conviction that Tinubu remains the best person to lead the country at this time.
He added that while Nigeria faces significant economic and governance challenges, greater progress can be achieved if state governments effectively utilize available resources to improve security, infrastructure and public services.
