A High court sitting in Abia State presided over by the State Chief Judge, Justice Onuoha Ogwe, on Thursday January 3rd, 2018 granted bail to the 51 Judaism adherents arrested recently in Umuahia, the state capital.

The adherents were arrested on December 11, 2018 for alleged acts of terrorism and treason.

They were alleged to have been preparing for Judaism church service within the premises of the country home of the leader of Independent People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu in Afara Umuahia North Local Government Area of the state when they were arrested by the police.

Counsels to the accused, Aloy Ejimakor and Toni Nwofor while applying for their bail, argued that the charges brought against their clients were unknown to law, and that the offences they were being charged for were bailable.

Ejimakor said the court’s session was convened specially for the purpose of hearing the bail applications and commended the court for granting the detainees the bail applied for on liberal conditions.

He said the accused were granted bail on the condition that they would produce one surety with a bail bond of N2 million and who must show evidence of payment of three years’ tax, affidavit of means and proof of residence in Abia State.

The sureties and the accused were to also submit their two passport-sized photographs to the court.
