The Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Cross River State on Tuesday dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Sandy Onor, challenging the victory of Bassey Otu from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The panel’s judgment cited lack of merit as the reason for the dismissal.

Sandy Onor, representing the PDP, contested the election results after Bassey Otu was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the March 18 poll in the South-South state.

According to the announced results by INEC, Otu garnered 258,619 votes, while Onor reportedly secured 179,636 votes.

Bassey Otu, the APC candidate, emerged victorious in 15 out of the 18 declared local government areas in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State.
