George Alli appreciates federal, State govt for assisting flood victims in Benue

The Executive Chairman of Local Government, Rt. Hon. George Alli, has appreciated the Federal and State Government for coming to the aid of flood victims in Benue State.

Hon. Alli who was a guest on Benue Television live programme “Day Break Benue”, alongside Executive Secretary of SEMA Dr. Emmanuel Shior (who joined the conservation through skype) said the 85% of the relief materials was successfully distributed to beneficiaries, despite the looting of some of the relief materials by hoodlums.

The Otukpo Council Chairman disclosed that the #Endsars protest had given a false sense of entitlement to some persons in the society. He also said lessons have been learnt from the last experiences of the distribution of materials and called for a change of strategy. He said, “personally we have learned our lessons from what was experienced during the distribution.

Alli, commended the security operatives for their effort in quelling the chaos and restoring order during the distribution.

The Council Boss said, “going forward, such distribution will be made directly to the victims at their domain.

On his part, Dr. Emmanuel Shior, who is the State Emergency Management Agency’s Executive Secretary said, so long as issues of disaster management is concerned, SEMA will continue to work hand in hand with NEMA for the benefit of victims in high risk areas. He then charged LGA chairmen handling the distribution to make sure all that is meant for the flood victims are fairly given to them.
