A Nigerian Army Captain, identified as Alphonsus Alexander Kalthy Bazza, has tragically taken his own life in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State.

A relative of the deceased who spoke with SaharaReporters said that Captain Bazza’s lifeless body was discovered hanging from a tree in a forest on Saturday night. The circumstances surrounding his death have been described as ‘mysterious and suspicious.’

The source further explained that the cause of this tragic event remains uncertain, as no suicide note was left behind for his wife, elder sister, or any other family member. Captain Bazza’s apparent act of self-harm using a mosquito net, which he ordinarily used for sleep, has left his family in shock and disbelief.

The family member questioned why a Captain in the army would resort to such a desperate act when he had no apparent reason to do so, pointing out that there was no record of wrongdoing or causing harm to others.

Additionally, it was mentioned that Captain Bazza had experienced the loss of his tent mate under perplexing circumstances during his time in Yobe.

He had been married since 2017 and was the father of a single child, a son.

The Nigerian Army headquarters has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of Captain Bazza’s untimely death.

The family source expressed their grief, saying, “We lost this young man (my brother-in-law), Captain Alphonsus Alexander Kalthy Bazza, last night. He committed suicide in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. But the army headquarters is investigating the real cause of his death. They claimed his body was found hanging in the bush. No note was given to either his wife or any member of his family; the family is not aware that he left any note behind.”
