A Nigerian activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has expressed skepticism over the 2027 presidential chances of Peter Obi, stating that the former Anambra State governor’s popularity may remain largely confined to the online space.

Adeyanju, in a statement, said Obi’s strong presence on social media would not translate into electoral victory due to weak grassroots structures.

“Peter Obi will win the 2027 election on social media; that I am 100% sure of. But in real life, that is not possible. His impressions, retweets, likes and online polls will all be on point, but they won’t have enough polling unit agents on election day,” he said.

He further alleged internal challenges within Obi’s political camp, adding, “They will also embezzle campaign funds as usual. Peter Obi is working for Tinubu.”

His comments come barely 24 hours after Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso reportedly aligned under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), fueling speculations of a possible joint ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.

In the 2023 presidential election, Obi contested under the Labour Party, while Kwankwaso ran on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party. Both candidates finished third and fourth respectively.
