Doyin Odebowale, the Special Adviser on Special Duty and Strategy to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, disclosed yesterday that the governor is grappling with accommodation challenges in the state capital due to his present health condition. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Odebowale emphasized the necessity for a more suitable residence for Akeredolu given his health situation.

“Aketi came back in September. Where he used to stay – the Presidential Lodge built for the visiting president at that time Olusegun Obasanjo – is a two-bedroom apartment,” Odebowale stated during the show.

He elaborated on the accommodation predicament, mentioning that Governor Akeredolu, upon his return, cannot utilize the two-bedroom apartment he previously occupied. The previous accommodations, including the Presidential Lodge and the Governor’s Lodge, have been repurposed for other functions, prompting the urgent need for a more suitable residence for the governor’s recovery.

Since his return from a medical vacation abroad, Governor Akeredolu has been absent from the state, opting to work remotely from Ibadan, Oyo State. This decision has sparked controversy within the state, leading to criticism from some quarters.

Addressing the criticism, Odebowale emphasized that the governor has been attending to his responsibilities, including signing laws and ensuring salary payments to civil servants. He dismissed the notion that Akeredolu needs to be physically present at a specific location to carry out his duties effectively.

In response to concerns regarding the governor’s whereabouts and activities, Odebowale questioned the motives behind such inquiries and highlighted the importance of focusing on the governor’s recovery and well-being. He emphasized that efforts are underway to secure appropriate accommodation for the governor to aid in his recovery.
