PHOTOS: Protest rocks Edo over fuel price increase

Civil society groups operating under the umbrella of Edo Civil Society Organisations have taken to the streets of Benin City, the capital of Edo State, to voice their strong opposition to the recent fuel price hike.

Protesters marched through major streets, expressing their condemnation of the fuel price increase and the perceived high cost of governance in Nigeria.

The demonstrators are deeply troubled by the rise in petrol prices, which they view as an additional burden on the already struggling populace.

According to the protesters, newly elected members of the National Assembly have received substantial sums, amounting to billions of naira, to improve their working conditions, while ordinary citizens suffer under the weight of the fuel price hike.

Carrying placards bearing various inscriptions, the Edo civil society groups also rejected the proposed N8,000 palliative offered by the Federal Government in response to the removal of petrol subsidy.

In light of the growing tension surrounding the fuel price issue, the Federal Government has called for patience from the public as it navigates the complex economic challenges. However, civil society organizations continue to voice their concerns, demanding immediate action to alleviate the burden faced by ordinary citizens.
