‘The rascality is totally unacceptable’ – Peter Obi laments alleged Benue convoy attack

 Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has criticised the alleged disruption of his convoy while visiting Benue State to sympathise with victims of recent attacks.

Obi arrived in the state on Tuesday as part of efforts to visit communities affected by the wave of killings and express solidarity with residents who lost loved ones.

However, his planned movement to one of the affected areas was reportedly halted after his convoy encountered a blockade along Boko Road, close to the Air Force Base.

The former Anambra State governor alleged that political supporters and security personnel were involved in preventing him from proceeding to the community.

Addressing journalists at the scene, Obi said he was told that youths allegedly backed by the state governor had taken over the road and stopped his team from moving forward.

“I am here in a place where people have been killed. I am here to commiserate with them, but now I have been told that youths sponsored by the governor have blocked the road and made sure I do not go in,” Obi said.

He questioned why he would be prevented from reaching residents affected by violence, stressing that he had remained at the location for a considerable period.

“I have been standing here since. We cannot have a country like this. It does not make sense to me. The rascality is totally unacceptable,” he said.

Obi further condemned the continued attacks in Benue, insisting that Nigerians should be free to visit communities affected by violence to offer condolences and support.

“People are being killed every day in Benue. People want to condole them and show that they are with them. I came here only to be told we cannot go in,” he said.

The NDC candidate’s visit comes amid continued concerns over insecurity and deadly attacks in parts of Benue State.

As of the time of filing this report, the Benue State Government had not issued an official response to Obi’s allegations.
