Govt that cannot protect lives does not deserve power — Kwankwaso
Kwankwaso spoke on Friday in Jos, Plateau State, during an event organised by the Middle Belt Youth Council for the Obi-Kwankwaso campaign team.
Kwankwaso lamented the collapse of industries that once provided jobs for Nigerians. He criticised the government for neglecting the problem.
“You can hardly find a functioning factory or industry in Nigeria today that can provide jobs, even in Plateau State. The industries that once existed have disappeared, yet nobody seems concerned about their fate,” he said.
The former Kano State governor also condemned the persistent killings across the country. He cited attacks by bandits, Boko Haram insurgents and communal clashes.
He said the frequent loss of lives showed the urgent need for leaders who value human life.
“People wake up to reports that 10, 20, 100 or even more Nigerians have died, as though their lives mean nothing. Those who die in attacks by bandits, Boko Haram or communal conflicts are human beings just like the rest of us,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to support leaders who would protect citizens regardless of their religion, ethnicity or region.
Kwankwaso described the protection of lives and property as a constitutional duty for every government.
“We need leaders who respect every Nigerian, regardless of religion, ethnicity or region, and who will safeguard lives and property. Our Constitution makes this a responsibility of government,” he added.
He argued that any administration that fails to protect citizens and meet its basic obligations does not deserve another term in office.
Kwankwaso also urged Plateau residents to vote for the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket and other NDC candidates in the forthcoming election.
“You must stand up to protect your votes. You have done it before, and I believe you can do it again,” he said.
