The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention NCDC has identified two suspected cases of Ebola Virus Disease EVD in the North-East region of the country.

The agency disclosed this in a statement posted on its official X handle on Saturday, saying it had collected samples from the suspected cases for laboratory testing.

The NCDC said it was awaiting the test results to determine whether the cases were confirmed.

It also announced the deployment of rapid response teams to the affected states to investigate the cases, trace contacts and prevent possible transmission.

The agency urged Nigerians to remain calm while observing strict hygiene practices and avoiding bushmeat.

It also advised anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, vomiting, bleeding or diarrhoea to seek immediate medical attention at the nearest health facility.

The NCDC said it was working with state governments and partners to monitor the situation and ensure effective containment measures.

As of the time of filing this report, laboratory results for the two suspected cases were still pending.
