2027: APC disowns Ogun governorship aspirant Abayomi Hunye, declares him imposter

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the claim by Abayomi Hunye that he is the party’s governorship candidate for Ogun State in the 2027 election, describing him as an imposter.

APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, made the position known in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, maintaining that Senator Adeola Olamilekan remains the party’s recognised governorship candidate in the state.

“Hunye is not a member of the APC; in good standing, he was suspended from the party on April 7, 2026; he is an imposter currently on suspension,” Basiru said.

He explained that Hunye’s suspension followed a petition from his Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area and was subsequently endorsed through the party’s internal structures.

According to Basiru, the suspension was based on a grassroots decision, ratification by the ward and local party structures, and formal approval by the Ogun State Working Committee.

“His suspension was ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee and communicated to the national headquarters.

“His recent self-declaration as the governorship candidate of our party for the 2027 election is completely false, unauthorised, and a mischievous act aimed at misleading the public,” he said.

Basiru said the allegations that led to Hunye’s suspension included actions considered harmful to the party’s image, anti-party activities and deliberate attempts to create division among APC members.

“Consequently, he lacks the legal and moral standing to represent the APC in any capacity.

“We reiterate that following the validly conducted primary election of the APC, the duly nominated and elected governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election is Senator Adeola Olamilekan, with his running mate being Balogun Abiodun.

“This is in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026 and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC,” the APC national secretary said.

He disclosed that the names and other details of Olamilekan and his running mate had been uploaded on the INEC portal.

Basiru added that INEC had issued official acknowledgement slips confirming the duo as the recognised APC candidates for the 2027 Ogun governorship election.

He warned individuals, groups and organisations against conducting political dealings with Hunye while presenting himself as an APC representative.

“Any person, group or organisation that associates, collaborates or transacts any political business with Hunye under the guise of the APC does so at their own risk.

“The party will not be held liable for any financial loss, legal disputes or criminal liability that may arise from such dealings,” he said.

The APC national secretary called on party members and supporters to remain calm, law-abiding and avoid provocations that could threaten peace in the state.

He also advised those seeking clarification on the party’s position to contact the APC national secretariat through the office of the national secretary for official information and updates.
