Manchester City maintained their lead in the English Premier League after beating Ipswich Town 3-2, while Arsenal kept the pressure on the champions with a narrow victory over Nottingham Forest in Matchweek 7.

City came from a difficult contest to secure all three points on Saturday, with Phil Foden and Erling Haaland among the scorers. Haaland struck twice as Enzo Maresca side moved to 21 points, three ahead of second-placed Arsenal.

Arsenal, however, refused to let the leaders pull away. Noni Madueke scored in the 80th minute to give Mikel Arteta’s side a 1-0 away win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

The result lifted Arsenal to 18 points and kept the title race alive, with Brighton also emerging as serious contenders after an emphatic weekend performance.

Brighton thrash Palace as Liverpool fight back

Brighton produced the most impressive result of the weekend, dismantling Crystal Palace 5-0 in the M23 derby on Sunday.

Diego Gomez scored a remarkable goal from inside his own half as Brighton dominated their rivals. The victory moved them into third place with 16 points, strengthening their early-season push towards the top of the table.

Liverpool also secured an important three points after coming from behind to defeat Brentford 2-1 away from home.

Brentford took the lead through Keane Lewis-Potter before Victor Muñoz equalised for Liverpool. Alexander Isak then scored the winner to complete the comeback and take Liverpool’s points tally to 12.

Chelsea also enjoyed a successful weekend, defeating Everton 2-0. Pedro Neto scored twice to help Chelsea claim their fourth league victory of the season and move to 13 points.

Man United drop points again

Manchester United suffered another setback after drawing 1-1 with Leeds United at Elland Road.

Bryan Mbeumo gave United the lead before Dominic Calvert-Lewin restored parity for Leeds after the break. United were unable to find a winning goal and had to settle for a point.

The draw left United in 13th place with seven points from seven matches, having recorded only one league victory. The result increased the pressure on the club as they attempt to climb the table. Leeds, meanwhile, remained seventh with 10 points.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa defeated Newcastle United 1-0, while Bournemouth beat Sunderland 2-0 to record their first league win of the season. Fulham also edged Hull City 1-0.

The seventh matchweek is scheduled to conclude on Monday when Tottenham Hotspur host Coventry City.

With Manchester City leading on 21 points, Arsenal chasing on 18 and Brighton sitting third on 16, the early title race is beginning to take shape. Liverpool and Chelsea will also look to build on their latest victories as the competition continues.
