Residents protest against killings in Sapele
Following the rising wave of ritually related killings and other crimes in Sapele, Sapele LGA of Delta state in recent times, residents in their thousands under the aegis of Save Sapele Group, yesterday tripped out en-mass, protesting on major streets over what they described as, “the spate of recent serial ritual killings, cultism and other crimes.”
Chairman of the group Hon. Omasan Mabiaku who briefed pressmen said, “The recent serial killings, cultism and internet fraud, aka, yahoo yahoo plus across the town have been unbearable hence we have to come out to say “no” to them.”
“We are also protesting against kidnapping armed robbery and every other crime that has taken a toe on the residents of Sapele in recent times. We are calling on the youths to be involved in one trade or the other and make a living from such, for themselves, instead of been involved in crime.”
Some of the placards carried by the protesters read, “No more cultism in Sapele,” “No More Ritual killings in Sapele,” “We are tired of yahoo yahoo Plus in Sapele,” among others. The procession cause traffic jams on major streets, including the ever busy Sapele/Warri road and Okpe road.
Others who spoke against the various criminal activities which have been in upsurge in the area in resent time include; Hon. Patrick Itor, the Secretary to the group, Sanco Ese, Special Assistant to the Governor on Conflict Resolution, Hon. Akpogherhe Onome, an aged woman, Mrs Magaret Agbado, among others.
